If You Are At Peace

Todays motivation Monday quote come from our book club book, You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. In our online discussion this weekend, one of our readers shared that this quote spoke to her. I woke up this morning wanting to take on a 14 day challenge that I have attempted before and have not been successful. I immediately began to think about my past failure and what temptations might side track me. This quote made me recognize that I am derailing myself by not just staying in the moment, enjoying the present and actually creating anxiety that does not need to exist. Letting our past attempts define what we can accomplish in the present sets us up for another perceived failure from the beginning. We need to start with our head high.  If we must look back, remember a time you felt like your best self, focus on your personal strengths and use that to work towards your goal. More important, changing the goal to self improvement through positive change and not just running to a finish line, helps us connect to our true purpose and express our true selves.

If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future.

Let’s Talk Change

change-blog

Spring is here and like many of you, I am looking at my home, my schedule, my inner self and taking inventory of what I am ready to let go of, and what I would like to add to my life. While I have been quiet online, there has been a lot going on as I refocus, redirect and look at how I really want to use this space and what I want to share. While I will continue to share workouts and recipes, I am feeling I want to share deeper and be more open. From the conversations I have had the last few weeks, a lot of us are struggling with parenting, marriage, friendships, feeling guilty and trying to find balance. Yet, we don’t want to talk.  We are afraid of being judged and instead put on that perfect front. I think the ultimate act of kindness is to be open and honest with those struggling around us and be transparent so our loved ones can support us. I will be running some challenge groups in the FB group that will help us share and reach short-term goals. Coffee Talk posts will be more frequent and real life struggles parenting a teen and young adults, new adventures in my 21 year marriage and just life in general. Cardio And More will continue to be workouts and tips. Cup Of Love is a space for motivation, kindness and peaceful living. Thank you for being part of my journey, for your love and support. Please comment on any topics or tips you would like to see in the coming weeks. Hope your week is filled with Coffee, Peace and a little Cardio.

Today I Choose…

This spoke to my soul today. No matter what you face, you get to choose. I am filled with gratitude for this day. I am going to choose a cup of coffee in peace, a laugh in my classes, a hug from my husband, a smile or text from my kids. Even if my house is messy or I don’t live up to my own expectations. I treasure the opportunity that I have tomorrow.

Be Unapologetically You

This morning I sat down to write in my gratitude journal, enjoying a cup of coffee and the quiet of the morning. I was flipping through the last week and this statement I wrote down jumped out at me ” Be unapologetically you. You are never too much.”  It was from a morning text I received from Shine and clearly a reminder I needed today. One of my favorite sayings is “a candle does not lose their light by lighting another candle.” There will always be people who  want to be the only light in the room. Some people have not found their light yet. You can be an encouragement and lift others up but we need to stop apologizing for living our best life. You are not too much! Be Unapologetically You. 🙂

My favorite way to start Sunday, is brunch! Coming up with new, delicious recipes to share with my family, relax and just hang out in our PJ’s. Before I even got to try it I heard my son “this is really good”. I knew it would be a keeper. Super moist, delicious, and you would never know it is gluten-free, vegan and low sugar.

Recipe:

Dry ingredients:

1 1/2 cups Oat Flour (ground oatmeal)

1/2 cup Buckwheat Flour

1 tsp Baking Powder

1 tsp Xanthan Gum

1 Tbs Cinnamon

2 Tbs Chia Seed

3 Tbs Sugar (or coconut sugar or Stevia)

Dash of Salt

Mix all together in a bowl

2 Tbs ground Flaxseed (for flax eggs) add water and let sit 10 minutes

In another bowl mix together:

3 overripe bananas, mashed

1 grated zucchini (peeled optional)

3 Tbs Maple Syrup (can sub honey if not vegan)

3 Tbs Peanut Butter (can sub any nut butter)

add the flax eggs mix together, slowly add the dry ingredients and mix by hand, fold in 1/2-1 cup chocolate chips (your choice)

Pour mixture in greased pan, top with crushed pecan and raw sugar (totally optional) Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick come out clean.

Let cool  slightly (the chocolate chips will be little lava pockets) and enjoy 🙂

Do What You Can

Yesterday I was so inspired by a woman who came to my Zumba Gold class for the 1st time. She let me know she had never taken Zumba. She was just diagnosed with Parkinson’s and has just started boxing and wants to add Gold to her schedule. She had a choice when she received her diagnosis, and she is choosing to live life, try new things and become stronger mind and body. I want to follow in her lead, I hope her story motivates you as well. Get out there and do what you can.

Sunday Morning Coffee Cake

Inspired by my kids fondly remembering the coffee cake of their school-age years. I whipped up a batch of the good old Bisquick recipe for them and went to work on a gluten-free, vegan version for me. Then we made a pot of coffee, brunch on the patio, enjoyed a beautiful Sunday morning. My coffee cake received a thumbs up and ” that’s really good”, even next to a gluten filled cake.
